Kyocera was founded in 1959 by Dr. Kazuo Inamori, and was originally called Kyoto Ceramic Co., Ltd. specializing in fine ceramics.

The history of the Kyocera Corporation has seen a huge development in the production of environmentally friendly products and production methods and a clear focus on quality of life.

Today Kyocera is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-tech ceramics, electronic components, solar cells, cellular phones and electronic office equipment.

These corporate resources are devoted to three key areas: information and communications; environmental preservation and lifestyle enhancement. Kyocera Corporation currently employs approximately 55,000 people in more than 27 countries with headquarters in Kyoto, Japan.

The Corporation has made many social contributions, including the Kyocera Museum of Art, the Children's Travel Programme and the Kyoto Prize, awarded to people who have excelled in one of three categories: Advanced Technology, Basic Sciences, and Arts and Philosophy.

As the pace of global change accelerates, Kyocera remains on the leading edge, always creating business with genuine value.

ArrayComm, Inc. is an innovative wireless technology company located in California's Silicon Valley. The company's patented IntelliCell® adaptive smart antenna (spatial processing) technology radically enhances wireless voice and data communication systems, and makes their operators more profitable. ArrayComm's core solution has been successfully embedded in several commercial wireless platforms in both fixed and mobile applications. IntelliCell is the backbone of ArrayComm's latest innovation, i-BURST™ - the first truly portable, low-cost, ubiquitous, high-speed wireless Internet solution.

ArrayComm has two separate business units. The mission of the IntelliCell Products Group is to invent, develop and license advanced smart antenna technology to wireless system OEMs. The IntelliCell technology significantly improves capacity, coverage and quality to meet the needs of 21st century wireless operators and their customers.

The mission of the Internet Products Group is to realize mass-market adoption of the i-BURST system through close cooperation with its global partners. i-BURST enables a new consumer and business lifestyle via an open platform that delivers always-on connectivity, freedom to move and broadband content at substantially lower cost than any other existing or proposed wireless systems.

The technonlogy of IntelliCell® adaptive smart antenna

ArrayComm's IntelliCell® technology is the first major advance in radio technology in thirty years. IntelliCell technology dramatically improves the capacity, coverage, and quality of wireless voice and data networks across all air interface standards. This is accomplished by enhancing propagation, mitigating interference and reducing the need for spectrum. IntelliCell technology utilizes proprietary software and standard antenna arrays to continuously optimize, in real time, the communication channel with every wireless user. Also known as a fully adaptive "smart antenna" solution, IntelliCell technology essentially makes a virtual wire connection with every user.

most of their capacity and signal quality by needlessly broadcasting energy in all directions, the same systems enhanced by IntelliCell technology will do exactly the opposite. IntelliCell technology sends energy directly to each user while carefully avoiding interfering with other users. In fact, IntelliCell technology can multiply spectrum re-use by creating multiple spatial channels on top of traditional voice and data channels.

For carriers, this means fewer base stations, more efficient use of spectrum, and higher profitability. For end users, this means fewer dropped calls, substantially faster data rates and far better service quality.

IntelliCell® adaptive smart antenna (spatial processing) technology can be embedded inside of wireless base stations, backhaul units and/or terminal units. This results in important improvements in both signal reception and transmission which are described below. The ultimate benefit of IntelliCell processing is the spatial channel ? re-use of the same traditional traffic channel in the same sector.

Company History

ArrayComm was founded in 1992 to commercialize its technological breakthrough in wireless spectral efficiency. After years of pioneering work with major infrastructure providers, IntelliCell® technology has been successfully deployed in both fixed and mobile commercial wireless networks. There are now tens of thousands of IntelliCell enhanced base stations serving millions of consumers in countries including Japan, China, UAE, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Led by Chairman and CEO Martin Cooper, the inventor of the first portable cellular telephone and a former executive at Motorola, ArrayComm has an experienced management team and a group of highly skilled business executives, research scientists and development engineers. The team boasts a unique knowledge in digital signal processing, advanced optimization techniques, wireless system architecture and implementation and holds many patents.

ArrayComm was recently named one of Inc. Magazine's 500 fastest growing companies, and in the top 25 companies to watch in the new millennium by Wireless Week Magazine.
