On 05 May 2010 at Hyatt Regency Baku, Meeting and Conference Centre, Datacell CJSC together with the Baku Representation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held a press-conference, where it was officially declared that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development made an investment to the development of the wireless broadband internet service "elcell".

The EBRD is supporting wider penetration of internet services in Azerbaijan with a $4 million equity investment in Datacell JSC, a wireless broadband service that already serves the capital, Baku, and which now aims to reach out to the country’s regions.

The EBRD’s investment in Datacell’s newly issued shares will enable the company to expand its services to new individual and business customers in and outside the capital. By 2011 the company is planning to provide wireless internet services in entire Absheron peninsula, which includes Baku and its suburbs, as well as in twelve other major towns of the country.

“This is the EBRD’s first telecommunications investment in Azerbaijan and we are pleased to join efforts with Datacell in assisting the company to expand internet services in the regions of Azerbaijan. The project will boost the competition in the sector and will provide Azerbaijanis with better access to a range of information services”, said Michelle Senecal De Fonseca, EBRD Director for Telecommunications.

elcell announces the beginning of its commercial activities in Ganja!

elcell, being the provider of wireless broadband Internet service based on HC-SDMB (iBurst) technology, announces the beginning of its commercial activities in Ganja as of March 01, 2010.

elcell subscribers will pay for services using ATM network of International Bank of Azerbaijan

As of 1 January 2009, the elcell mobile Internet service users will be able to renew their balance and pay service fees using ATMs of International Bank of Azerbaijan. This service has been developed in cooperation with AzeriCard under the program for diversifying the range of ATM services.

Main advantage of paying service fees via ATMs is the round-the-clock access to ATMs, i.e. 24/7. Transfer of money to the subscriber's account will only take a few minutes. No additional funds will be deducted from their account card.

Payment of service fees is carried out using simple commands of ATM menu that do not require any special experience or expertise. In an effort to enhance the level and quality of subscriber services, elcell will soon be planning to offer subscribers a new opportunity of using online payment system.

elcell boosts its network capacity

elcell is constantly working to increase capacity on its data transfer network as part of its measures to improve service quality and ensure high-speed wireless Internet access for its rapidly growing number of subscribers.

elcell revamps its web site

elcell launched a new-look web site on 18 September. The site has an improved interface and complete change in design as part of the company’s re-branding.

The re-branded site features the corporate colours in a more modern style which is easier on the eye. The site uses the company’s re-branded logo and new slogan – “Be free” (“Sərbəst ol”) – referring to elcell’s provision of free Internet access anytime anywhere.
